You would then be able to mount a small vice to the lathe cross slide and away you go. Saddle gives the x axis, cross slide gives the y and your attachment gives the z.

It is possible to do very limited milling with the workpiece held in the toolpost if you only need to move in two directions but a vertical slide makes 3 axis milling possible.
